Sometimes modeling can be a stressful and terrifying experience. Although you may not have control of your stylist, creative director or photographers artistic direction - you absolutely can control the mood you give to the camera. Knowing how to find your creative happy space will allow you to have fun on your shoot as well as express the desired emotions in your photos!
Here are 5 methods I use to have fun on a shoot:
Bring your music- The venue or photographer(s) might have their own but why chance it? You know what songs and sounds make You feel good. And when you feel good, you look good!! So, pack a speaker, make your playlist, dance and feel your mood.
Laugh- I know it sounds corny. I know sometimes you want to look fierce. But some of the best photos come from laughter. And even if it is a fake laugh at first, it'll become a real laugh. You'll feel good, the photographer will feel good and your photos will be magnificent.
Get out of your own head- We are our own worst enemy. Especially as models, we can be overly critical of ourselves. Now I'm not saying don't think about you clothing, your facial expressions, your body movements or any of that. But when you're already in a shoot, you've got to let go of that negativity and just have some fun with it.
Bring some of your own props- Having flowers, a mirror, or some other prop you like can add dimension to your photos. And because you brought it you'll know what to do with it. You can have fun posing with it because you're comfortable with it. (Unless specifically required/suggested that you shouldn't of course.)
Move - Don't get me wrong you should be moving - because - you're posing. But hear me out, move like your dancing. Jump if that's what you want to do, flip your hair, move freely and enjoy yourself!
Fun translates always - so remember to enjoy yourself at shoots and HAVE FUN!!
